SHILLONG, OCT 1: UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said the government must not shelter anyone involved in illegality, referring to the alleged illegal collection by police at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai flagged by the KSU.
Lyngdoh, who is the MLA of West Shillong, said his information is limited to media reports.
“My information is very limited, only what has appeared in the media, so I will not be able to comment further unless I have details with me. But any illegality should always be controlled and any act that leads to an erosion of public trust should be challenged,” he said.
He asserted that he would stand for public interest.
“I will be one person who will stand up for anything which is for the interest of the people,” Lyngdoh said.
When asked if a probe should be ordered, he said, “It should be. In fact, it need not be a demand, the department should do it. I don’t see any reason to shelter anybody committing illegalities. Government should not only practice probity but should also be seen as practicing probity and transparency.”
On KSU’s demand for removal of the DC and SP, Lyngdoh said, “Well, let the probe take place first. Let the report be ready and whoever is responsible should face the music.”
