SHILLONG, AUG 12: Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr WCR Marak on Wednesday urged the youth of South West Garo Hills to channel their creativity and energy towards building a stronger society.
Addressing the gathering at the International Youth Day 2026 observance at MFC BADO Building, Ampati, he said young people must recognise their potential and put their skills to use for community development.
“The youth should recognise their potential and use their skills, creativity and energy for the development of society,” Dr Marak said.
He also stressed on the importance of technology, collaboration and partnerships in creating new opportunities and tackling emerging challenges.
The event, organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, South West Garo Hills, was held on the theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnerships”.
It brought together students, youth groups, officials and dignitaries to highlight the role of young people in shaping an inclusive future.
The program began with a welcome address by G.R. Marak, Junior Football Coach, District Sports Office.
Zanera R. Marak, District Social Welfare Officer, administered the Nasha Mukt Pledge, urging youth to stay free from substance abuse and become responsible contributors to society.
In the second session, resource persons Dr Johnstellon Ch Marak, Assistant Professor, Harding Theological College, Tura and Tesilchi Ch Sangma, Skill Development Officer, MSSDS spoke on skill enhancement, youth development and available opportunities.
Cultural performances by Mr. Praidi B Marak, Mrs. Medha Arengh and the Dikki Swara Band Group added colour to the event with songs, folk dance and folk music.
In a sharing session, Raksrang Arengh spoke about his experience and journey to Malaysia, highlighting the value of exposure and opportunities beyond the district.
The observance concluded with a vote of thanks by Donme Ch Marak.
