Priority to restore peace at earliest: Meghalaya CM after meet with Assam govt.

SHILLONG, AUG 22: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said Saturday’s meeting between Assam and Meghalaya governments focused on restoring normalcy at the earliest and ensuring safe movement of people and vehicles after the August 19 violence in Shillong.

Thanking Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his cooperation and all stakeholders for their constructive engagement, Sangma said both states are committed to protecting the bond between the people of Assam and Meghalaya.

“Our priority is to restore peace and normalcy at the earliest and ensure safety of citizens. Those responsible for violence will be dealt with firmly as per law,” he said in a post on X.
