SAFF condemns Shillong violence, calls for peace between Assam-Meghalaya

SHILLONG, AUG 23: The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) has condemned the recent violence in Shillong and called for dialogue and engagement to resolve issues between Assam and Meghalaya.

In a meeting held on Saturday, SAFF deliberated on the present situation in Shillong and issues with Assam arising out of the attack on innocent individuals, tourists, damaging of vehicles including vandalising statues of national icons etc.

“The forum emphasised that violence can never be justified as the solution to any issue, while stressing on the importance of dialogue and engagement being the only route towards an amicable resolution of different issues requiring solution,” said Asstt Secretary Arup Barua on behalf of SAFF.

SAFF also appealed to the concerned sections of people, both in Meghalaya and Assam, to initiate positive measures to ensure lasting peace for restoration of normalcy, in the interest of the common people of both neighbouring states.
