SHILLONG, JUL 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the government is struggling to recruit faculty for Tura Medical College, with just three rounds of hiring yielding less than 15% of the required staff.
Speaking after a review meeting, Sangma said the response to advertisements for professors and lecturers has been “very low.”
“We have not even touched about 10-15% of the requirement,” he said.
“So, we are quite concerned about how to move forward.”
The CM said he has asked the health department to explore alternatives and consult stakeholders in the state to decide the next steps.
“This is of course a matter of great concern for us,” Sangma said, adding that the issue will be examined again soon.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to operationalize the college quickly, similar to Shillong Medical College.
“We are very keen to see that Tura Medical College also starts at the earliest,” he said.
