SHILLONG, AUG 25: Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday said the government will renovate and restore the statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda that were vandalized at RR Colony, Umpling.
“The government, through the Department of Arts and Culture, shall renovate and restore the statues of freedom fighter Shri Subhash Chandra Bose and spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda which were recently vandalized at RR Colony, Umpling, Shillong,” Shullai said.
He said the contribution of both leaders towards nation building is of great significance.
“We as a civilized society should ensure that any form of protest should be peaceful in nature as the impact of any damage incurred by violence has long standing negative effect upon the growth and development of the state,” he said.
Expressing deep regret over the vandalism, he urged students and youth to learn from the teachings of the two national icons.
