From Jan 1, 2027, no interviews for Group-C non-technical jobs: CM

SHILLONG, AUG 26: The Meghalaya government will discontinue interviews for Group-C non-technical posts recruited through District Selection Committees (DSCs) from January 1, 2027 onwards, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Wednesday.

Briefing after the cabinet meeting, Sangma said the decision is in line with the reforms initiated earlier.

“We had discontinued interviews for Group-D posts based on recommendations from the UPSC and our own reforms commission. In continuation of that, today the cabinet has decided to remove interviews for Group-C non-technical posts as well,” he said.

The CM said interviews will remain for technical posts under Group-C, and the Personnel department will come out with a clear list distinguishing technical and non-technical posts.

He said the new system will be applicable for all advertisements issued from January 1, 2027, as service rules need to be amended. “We are giving three to four months for completion of the administrative process,” he said.

The cabinet also cleared the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for DSCs.

“To ensure uniformity and that no steps are missed during recruitment, we have approved SOPs for all DSCs. We will hold a special training for deputy commissioners and officials to ensure early implementation,” Sangma said, adding the SOPs will be extended to other boards like medical, rural development and police.
