Staff nurse recruitment row: West Khasi Hills DC orders formal inquiry, holds back results

Nongstoin, Sept 30: The West Khasi Hills District Administration has instituted a formal inquiry into alleged irregularities in the recruitment for staff nurse posts at MCH Hospital, Nongstoin and put on hold publication of results till the probe is completed.

In a letter to the VPP State Youth Wing on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak said the office has taken serious cognizance of the representation submitted on September 28 regarding the recruitment process.

“Integrity, transparency, and meritocracy in the recruitment process are of paramount importance to the District Administration, and any act of corruption or illegal demand will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law,” Nayak said.

To ascertain facts and ensure a fair procedure, the DC informed that a Formal Inquiry Committee has been constituted comprising Superintendent of Police H Kharkongor and Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate E Lyngdoh.

The administration said no final selection list will be released until the inquiry is fully completed.

“No results or final selection list will be published or released until the formal inquiry is fully completed and the matter has been thoroughly resolved,” the letter stated.

The DC said a press release has also been issued to inform candidates and the public, advising them not to fall prey to touts, middlemen or individuals claiming ability to influence the selection process.

“Candidates are urged to immediately report any such illegal solicitations directly to the District Administration or to the Inquiry Committee during office hours,” Nayak said, adding that necessary action as per law will follow upon submission of the inquiry report.

The move comes a day after VPP MDC from Nongstoin Juristman Iawphniaw and party workers interrupted the interview process alleging malpractice, a matter the party said it had flagged before the DC on September 17.
