Dhar to inspect New Shillong projects on July 30

SHILLONG, JUL 15: Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar will visit New Shillong Township on July 30 to review ongoing projects.

Dhar said most projects are progressing well, but some are lagging.

“Some of the projects are in good progress, but a few seem a little bit slow. I have tentatively fixed July 30 for my own inspection. We will try to resolve all the issues,” he said.

According to Dhar, the delays are not major but response times need to improve. The department will ask contractors to expedite work during the inspection.

He blamed Meghalaya’s short working season for the slowdown, noting that heavy rains leave only 6-7 months for construction.

He also clarified that payments are being released on time and funds are not a problem.

On penalties, Dhar said clauses vary across tenders.

“If a contractor delays without reason, they will have to face penalties as per their agreement,” he added.

The Minister said most projects are still within their scheduled timelines.
