SHILLONG, SEPT 18: Traffic Addl SP Lovish Garg was seriously injured after a scooty carrying two youths allegedly rammed into him while trying to evade naka checking at Urkaliar early Friday.
The incident took place around 1:30 am near Samkhamti Petrol Pump, City SP Dangsan Khyriem said.
He said the scooty ignored signals to stop and sped ahead aggressively. Garg intervened to stop them but was hit.
“Instead of stopping, the scooty accelerated and hit the Additional Superintendent of Police, causing him serious injuries,” Khyriem said, adding the act appears deliberate.
Garg was rushed to Woodland Hospital and shifted to the HD Unit.
Police are registering an attempt to murder case. The accused are suspected to be KSU members and the motive behind their movement and escape attempt is under investigation.
Khyriem warned that strict naka operations will continue and any attempt to evade checking will invite firm action.
