SHILLONG, SEPT 5: The Vice-President of India will visit Meghalaya on September 7 to lay foundation stones for five projects worth Rs 1,011 crore.
He will be felicitated at a public reception at Soso Tham Auditorium at 4:15 pm on Monday, where he will unveil the projects, address the gathering and witness cultural performances of the Khasi, Garo and Jaintia tribes.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed will also address the event.
The projects include the Rs 850.58 crore New Shillong Water Supply Scheme to provide 24×7 water for New Shillong City and 32 villages, a Rs 21.86 crore bridge over the Umngot river and a Rs 56.01 crore Umsen-Barapathar road to boost rural and interstate connectivity, a Rs 10 crore AYUSH facility at Shillong Civil Hospital, and a Rs 72.5 crore power substation at Mawkhanu to ensure stable supply for New Shillong.
