SHILLONG, AUG 31: UDP MLA Olan Sing Suin on Monday said the party is in full preparation mode for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election and is determined to win.
Speaking on party candidate VGK Kynta, Suin said, “A meeting was held on Saturday at Khliehriat for the MP byelection. I informed the President that I could not attend as I had to go to my village. We are preparing for the byelection and have lined up several programmes.”
Asserting that UDP will contest to win, he said, “When someone contests an election, he contests to win, not to come second or third. Being second has no meaning in politics. We are preparing for victory.”
On reports of nine UDP MLAs merging with BJP, Suin said such speculation only adds heat to state politics.
“Sometimes such news is good because it heats up politics in the state. But I don’t know what will happen as I have no information. I find it amusing when newspapers say I am somewhere, while I am actually in my village,” he said.
He added that such rumours will make the party work harder to secure a win in the bypoll.
