Govt stable till 2028, now need NPP MP to bring Delhi funds: Dhar; announces Rs 270 cr Balat-Weiloi road

SHILLONG, SEPT 6:Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday made a strong pitch for NPP’s Shillong Lok Sabha by-poll candidate Dr DRL Nonglait, stating that Meghalaya needs an MP aligned with the ruling fronts in Shillong and Delhi to complete pending development works.

Addressing a public meeting at Maweit under Mawshynrut constituency, Dhar said the MDA government is stable with 38 MLAs and will continue till 2028.

“The government is already stable. We have 38 MLAs. In Delhi also there is an NDA government. If you make Dr Nonglait win, he will go to Delhi and complete the pending works of the state,” said Dhar, who is also the national vice president of the NPP.

He said Dr Nonglait is a qualified and experienced leader who has been giving valuable advice to the government.

“We need a person like him,” he said, urging the electorate to vote for the book symbol. “Please don’t leave NPP. Let us win this time so that work moves smoothly from Delhi to Shillong.”

Highlighting the government’s focus on roads, Dhar announced that Rs 270 crore has been sanctioned for the Balat-Ranikor-Umpung-Weiloi road.

“This road is not in good condition. We have sanctioned Rs 270 crore and it will be like the Nongstoin road,” he said.

He said the sanction proves that the NPP-led government does not discriminate, even though many constituencies in the area are held by UDP and HSPDP.

Referring to the Nongstoin-Maweit road, Dhar said it was taken up on priority after the NPP formed the government.

“You are lucky to have Bah Gigur. I pushed this road and said cut from Jaintia and give first to this area. We got Rs 103 crore in the first phase for 22 km and another Rs 60 crore has been sanctioned and work is going on. In total about Rs 170 crore has been sanctioned for this road,” he said.

Dhar said he is confident Dr Nonglait will get a huge lead from Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills.
