SHILLONG,AUG 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday announced that the cabinet has cleared the proposal for a land bank for South West Khasi Hills district at Mawkyrwat. Addressing media after the meeting, Sangma said when new districts were created 11-12years ago, funds were sanctioned for land banks and administrative infrastructure, but Mawkyrwat failed to utilize the amount. “Some districts utilized the money but Resubelpara and Mawkyrwat did not. The moneyhas been lying with them for 10 years,” he said. Sangma said the government had cleared the land bank for Resubelpara about a yearago.
On Mawkyrwat, he said, “As per procedure followed at the deputy commissioner’s level, expression of interest was called, site visits wereconducted and two proposals were sent. The GAD department then asked the DC to submit one final selection.” “The DC has proposed 15 acres of land at Mawten, located 6 kms from the districtheadquarters, at a cost of Rs 2.19 crore. The amount is already available withthe DC. This land has been finalized for the district administration,”Sangma added.
